About the Artist

Behind the Thread: The Story of Cahira and the Sunshine & Apocalypse Workroom
Welcome to the Sunshine & Apocalypse Workroom. I am Cahira, the artist, designer, and maker behind every piece you see here.
My journey to creating high-end, artisan wearables is rooted in a lifelong passion for precise craftsmanship, structure, and rich storytelling. Having grown up surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and now calling the heart of the Midwest home, my life has been shaped by contrast—a balance between raw natural beauty and meticulous structural design.
For a long time, my creative projects were private, personal endeavors. The turning point for this shop came when I decided to step past the quiet hesitation of being judged and simply put my art out into the world for people to see, wear, and experience. Embracing that vulnerability has been the most empowering chapter of my life, allowing me to treat clothing not just as something you wear, but as a deliberate statement of self-expression.
My Creative Philosophy & Process
Every single garment in my collection is entirely hand-crocheted and completely one-of-a-kind. I deliberately choose to leave my sweaters and structural art wearables unlined, allowing the raw architecture of the stitchwork to speak for itself.
The heart of my creative process is inspired by:
  • Mythology and Lore: I draw thematic inspiration from powerful, complex figures of folklore and ancient history. Pieces like The Freyja Sweater and Skadi are created to channel themes of strength, armor, and timeless narrative.
  • Structural Precision: Because I work exclusively with crochet rather than knitting, every stitch is built deliberately by hand, creating complex textures and weights that cannot be replicated by machines.
  • Wearable Artistry: I view my work as texturized armor for the modern world. When you buy a piece from the workroom, you are investing in a singular original that carries its own history, time, and spirit.
Thank you for being here, for celebrating independent craft, and for stepping into the story with me.
